Hamas says Israeli delegation in Doha lacks authority for real negotiations

Hamas has accused Israel of avoiding meaningful ceasefire negotiations in Doha, calling Netanyahu’s tactics deceptive. The UK has suspended its free trade agreement with Israel over its continued war in Gaza.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has stated that the Israeli delegation in Doha lacks the authority to engage in meaningful negotiations or finalize a ceasefire agreement.

In a statement released on Monday, Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of prolonging the delegation’s presence in Doha as a deceptive tactic to mislead global public opinion and falsely portray Israel as engaged in a negotiation process.

The group claimed that Netanyahu continuously extends the delegation’s stay without entering serious talks, and noted that no real negotiations have occurred since last Saturday. Hamas further placed full responsibility on Israel for the failure to reach an agreement.

Hamas cited explicit statements from Israeli officials regarding their intention to continue military aggression and forcibly displace Palestinians, calling this stance a blatant defiance of international efforts for peace.

The group also condemned the escalation of attacks, including the bombing of civilian infrastructure and massacres targeting women and children. It highlighted that these actions coincided with the release of Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander, exposing Netanyahu’s refusal to reach any settlement and his insistence on continuing warfare.

Hamas stated that Alexander’s release was based on an understanding with the U.S. that humanitarian aid would return to Gaza and that comprehensive negotiations to end the war would commence immediately.

Mediators in Doha have been working to secure a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, but efforts have stalled. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani revealed on Tuesday that negotiations in Doha have failed to progress due to "fundamental differences between the parties."

According to Hamas, some of Israel’s closest allies have started opposing the regime’s military campaign in Gaza. It cited growing international condemnation from several European nations, reinforcing Palestinian demands for justice and an end to the blockade.

The statement comes as Britain, France, and Canada have threatened Israel with sanctions in response to its continued military offensive and severe restrictions on humanitarian aid.

The UK has summoned the Israeli ambassador in London and announced the suspension of its free trade agreement with Israel. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy denounced Israel’s actions and rhetoric, saying they were isolating the country from its friends and international partners. He also criticized Israel for expanding its military operations in Gaza and restricting humanitarian aid.

Hamas dismissed Netanyahu’s statements regarding aid entry into Gaza, calling them an attempt to mislead the international community.

Humanitarian experts have warned of an impending famine affecting Gaza’s 2.3 million residents. The blockade has led to a worsening humanitarian crisis, with aid organizations struggling to deliver essential supplies.

Since early March, Israel has tightened its blockade on Gaza, unilaterally ending a January ceasefire before launching a renewed military campaign on March 18. All aid was blocked from entering the region on March 2, exacerbating the crisis.
